Last week (Tuesday 24th November 2021) we held our first Invictus Games of the year for year 9 students at Kinver High School.
It was fantastic to finally have Invictus students all together and ready to take part in a sporting competition. In the first time in nearly 18 months we were delighted that we could put together the first Invictus Games of the year for Year 9 students.
A massive thank you and well done to Kinver High School staff who planned and delivered an excellent day of activities.
The morning began with an opening ceremony in the lecture theatre where Mr Thomas, the Invictus Sports Coordinator and Mr Mouzer, Head of PE at Kinver welcomed and introduced the day to our students and staff.
There was also a speech from our guest for the day Mr Andy Sinton, who is currently the Sixth Form Football Academy Head Coach, but is also an Ex England and Premier League footballer. Andy spoke to the students about the importance of taking your opportunity and always striving to give your best in everything we do.
The students were then sent off into their morning activities of: Badminton, Table Tennis, Outdoor Cross-Country course and a Fitness Suite challenge. The students were put into groups of 4 for each activity, where they competed against other schools in a round robin style event. The scores were then sent to Mr Mouzer.
After the morning activities the students had lunch in the school hall, and this was a good opportunity for the students to speak with each other and discuss the activities so far, all adding to our friendly competition. It was wonderful to see and feel the Invictus family vibe between the schools.
The afternoon events were Girls football on the field and Boys Basketball in the Sports Hall. For both events the student’s attitudes and application were first class, the level of competitive performance and fair play was evident.
The day then ending in the lecture theatre where the individual awards were given out, and the overall winners of the competition were announced, with the Year 9 winners being Wombourne High. Congratulations to all the students involved!
A fantastic day of competition was had by all, a big thank you to Kinver, we now look forward to our next Invictus Games in March. Students should also look out for other competitions that will take place for year groups across the year where points will be added to the running total.
